  • The Gold Beach Community Center in a non-profit organization with the mission to provide a gathering place to enhance the quality of life for the young to old. We are organized to promote and provide quality food services and activities that will contribute to the physical, emotional, and social well-being of its members and the community at large. It is an approximately 6,000 square foot facility fully owned and operated as a non-profit, independent organization. The Center features an office, kitchen, dining room, recreation room and large parking lot area for outdoor activities.

    The Assistant Cook provides support to Kitchen Manager - Head Cook by performing a variety of cooking duties. These include, but are not limited to, preparing food, testing new recipes, cleaning the kitchen, plating and packaging meals, and maintaining supplies.

    The Cook Assistant should have a passion for food and cooking and strong attention to detail for sanitation, cleanliness and organization.

  • Kitchen

    • Ensure the kitchen, including all appliances and utensils, is clean and sanitized.

    • Assist the Kitchen Manager-Head Cook by preparing ingredients for congregate and homebound meals such as chopping vegetables, cutting meat, or cleaning seafood. Adhere to all food management and handling standards.

    • Assist in cooking dishes and side dishes according to set recipes and/or the direction of the Kitchen Manager-Cook.

    • Assist in packaging homebound meals for delivery.

    • Assist in maintaining supplies keeping the kitchen fully stocked and notify the Kitchen Manager-Cook when supplies are low.

    •  Unpack deliveries and restock work areas.

    • Assist in the training of Kitchen Volunteers such as correct use of the dishwasher, packaging of homebound meals, plating congregate meals, etc.

    • Functions independently in the absence of the Kitchen Manager-Cook.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager-Cook.

      Janitorial

    • Clean the interior dining room floors.

    • Clean and disinfect commonly used dining room items, including but not limited to: tables, chairs, countertop surfaces, desks, railings, and door handles.

    • Clean and sanitize restrooms and keep stocked with supplies.

    • Empty trash.

    • Clear and friendly verbal skills as well as the temperament and desire to be part of a team.

    • Ability to perform well under pressure.

    • Ability to multitask while paying close attention to details.

    • Able to read and follow standardized recipes.

    • Flexible and willingness to be prepared each day for whatever job assignment the Kitchen Manager-Head Cook instructs.

    • Ability to be upright and standing for prolonged periods of time.

    • Ability to walk short distances frequently.

    • Ability to use fingers, hands, wrists and arms to safely operate equipment.

    • Ability to move one’s body to sit, stoop, bend, climb and twist frequently.

    • Ability to climb stairs occasionally.

    • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

    • Ability to work in an environment that is confined, hot, humid and noisy.

    • Regular work hours are weekday, primarily morning daytime hours.

    • Occasional weekend and evening requirement for fundraising and events.

    • High School Diploma or GED is required.

    • Oregon Food Handler’s Permit is required.

    • Basic computer skills are required.

    • Previous work experience in kitchen support is desired.

    • Employment is contingent on a Successful Background Screen.
